WHAT EXACTLY IS A "BELLY BAND?"

Families may be hesitant about adopting a male dog because they are afraid that the male will come into their home and immediately start "marking" their home. Although all H.O.T. Hounds are fostered in homes, and H.O.T. has found this is not necessarily the case as most Greyhounds house train very quickly, we understand the concern, and will admit that a male Greyhound, as well as a female Greyhound, or any other breed of dog for that matter, may go into their new home and put a smell there that they can identify with. As mentioned, this is not Greyhound behavior, but canine behavior.

In order to help to put an adoptive family's minds at ease, H.O.T. provides a Belly Band with each male Greyhound who is adopted from H.O.T. A Belly Band, sometimes called a "Bad Boy Belly Band", like a muzzle and a crate, is a training aid for male Greyhounds who do "leg lifting exercises" in the house. Not meant to be worn constantly, it is a greyt tool in helping the male realize that the house isn't his potty place.

Sometimes a picture IS worth a thousand words, so here to model a Belly Band is Frank's Speed a/k/a Rolo. Although Rolo doesn't need a Belly Band, it is easy to see it against his beautiful fawn coloring.

Why does a Belly Band work? Just like in potty training a human child, your Greyhound "child" does not like to be wet. If a male Greyhound should decide to void in the home, the Belly Band works much like a diaper. It will absorb the urine and keep it contained. The male dog realizes very quickly that they do not like to be wet and learn to hold their water. The Belly Band is washable and dryable, and adjustable with three velcro closures to ensure a good fit on any size Greyhound. They can be hand or machine washed and line dried (preferred) and reused as needed. Just be sure to attach the velcro together before washing to avoid picking up extra lint in the hooks.

As mentioned before, a Belly Band is not meant to be worn at all times, but to assist the adoptive parent with a area which may be looked on as a problem. A Belly Band is also helpful for senior male dogs if they begin to experience incontinence.

Belly Bands are available in just about any color, including black, brown, green, tan, grey, navy, light blue, cobalt blue, red, yellow, orange, salmon, rust, purple. For a limited time, you can also order in a custom print, leopard, cheetah, python, zebra or camo. If you desire a color which is not specifically stated, ask, we probably have it! Belly Bands can also be ordered in a custom size for any breed dog. Just give us a hollar, and we'll do what we can to help! A donation of $10.00 per Belly Band (first class postage included in the 48 contiguous United States) is requested and payable to H.O.T., as 100% of the proceeds of the Belly Bands made by Cherkotts go to the benefit of H.O.T. If you are ordering and you live in Canada, Mexico, or "across the pond", additional postage will be required. So, please contact Cheryl for your total, including shipping, and payment instructions.
