Taking a Siesta!

The purpose of a foster family within the Heart of Texas Greyhound Adoption, Inc. organization is to assist a newly-retired racing Greyhound in becoming acclimated to home life. A foster home is a temporary placement for the Greyhound, until its "forever" home is found. It is a very rewarding experience to see a retired racing Greyhound make the transition from "track hound" to "45 M.P.H. Couch Potato!"

Greyhounds are wonderful companions who crave love and attention. Through fostering, your family will have the opportunity to learn more about Greyhounds and, perhaps find the perfect Greyhound to adopt into your family!

Miss Molly - Aren't I Cute!

No H.O.T. Hound is ever placed in a kennel situation. All H.O.T. Hounds are fostered in loving, caring homes prior to adoption.

Fostering through H.O.T. is done a little differently than with other adoption/ rescue groups. To help make the fostering experience through H.O.T. pleasant and successful for both H.O.T. Hound and H.O.T. foster family, upon entering our program, all H.O.T. Hounds stay in one foster home to be initially personality profiled prior to their pre-adoption vetting. After the pre-adoption vetting is completed and the initial foster family has a pretty good idea of the personality of a particular H.O.T. Hound, then and only then is that dog moved into another foster home. We are especially careful to match up hound with home to ensure a successful fostering exerience. Everything except food is provided for your foster hound, because we find most foster families would rather just dish up two bowls of the same food rather than deal with two separate types of food. At the very least, a crate, muzzle, belly band (if the foster is a male) and unconditionally support is provided to you during your fostering experience. Monthly heartworm medication, worming medicine, and all vetting cost (unless it is due to the negligence of the foster family) is also provided by H.O.T. All we ask of our foster homes is that the bring their H.O.T. Foster Hound to the weekly Show 'n Tails, and that they treat their H.O.T. Hound with the love and care that they would their own Greyhound.
