STRAY!
We received a call on Saturday, May 19th, around 10:00 p.m. that a Greyhound was found on I-10 and would H.O.T. help. We immediately
were on the road to help this guy. Upon arrival, this is what we found. A male Greyhound who was almost hairless and covered
head to toe with fleas. Given his poor condition, it was obvious that he had been out for a while and not given proper care.
His ear tattoos were not readable at the time due to the edema in his ears from him scratching. So, on the way home, we decided to
call him Sammy.
Upon arriving home, he was bathed three times before we were able to get him clean and flea free. Usually when any dog is that flea
infested, the water runs red with the flea dirt. But Sammy's did not. He was so anemic, the flea just were biting, not able to get
any blood while biting. Unfortunately, what hair Sammy did have was so coarse and brittle, it broke off at a touch. His ears were swelled
from scratching edema. But as you can see, he is, once again, a beautiful red boy.
Sammy was taken to our vet for a thorough evaluation. Although not thin, he was malnourished; he was anemic due to being infested with
fleas, infested with intestinal worms, and heartworm positive. The vet advised H.O.T. to wait a couple of weeks to start Sammy's
treatment due to Sammy's overall poor condition.
After the ear edema had gone down in his ears, we were able to identify Sammy as a Greyhound which H.O.T. adopted out in 2002.
His adoptive family never contacted H.O.T. So, what Sammy went through since about a year after he was adopted out is a big question.
What we did know is that Sammy was back with H.O.T. He would be cared for and loved like he should have been all along. He also would
be brought to full health.
Sammy went through his heartworm treatment with no problems. He is now heartworm free. He got his dental done and shots
updated and is now ready for a new forever home. Our thanks to everyone for their prayers and white light for Sammy!
Sammy is gentle, loving, laid-back Greyhound who is looking for an adoptive family who will fill his remaining years with love and
attention. Sammy does greyt with the other Greyhounds in his foster home. He loves playing with the stuffies, squeeky ones most
especially, but he also just loves to lie around being spoiled.

STERLING

White and Red Brindle Male
Birthdate: October 2001

CAT AND SMALL DOG TOLERANT
THIS ONE IS "STERLING"!
Sterling is one gorgeous Greyhound. His white is sparkling and his red brindle patches are bright and shiny. His eyes have a sparkle
in them which just hints of his mischievous temperment. Sterling is at the top of his game!
Sterling is listed as special needs because of a condition he has with his toenails called Lupoid Onychodystrophy. This is a lupus-like
syndrome that involved multiple nails on his paws. This condition can cause split nails, brittle nails or sloughing nails. (Now, tell
me that some human's don't have those same problems with their nails!) This syndrome can be asymptomatic and lie dormant for the life
of the dog. With Sterling, this syndrome has resulted in all the above results. Sterling was on a program of Prednisone and antibiotics
for a time, but has no problems or symptoms presently. One Vitamin E geltab daily helps keep the syndrome in check. Sterling also has
some corns on the bottom of one of his paws, but these cause him no concerns. So, other than these easily-handled conditions, Sterling
was given a clean bill of health by our vet.
Sterling is doing greyt in his foster home. Although he doesn't really like being crated, Sterling does crate. He does get a bit anxious
in his crate which results in some "singing" and panting (and sometimes defecating in his crate). Sterling gets along with the
other Greyhounds in his foster home.
Sterling does fancy himself an alpha male, but back down quickly when corrected by his human. This behavior doesn't manifest itself
immediately upon arriving in a new home, but after he gets accustomed to the home environment.
Children over the age of 10 would probably be best for Sterling. Also, a house with another medium to large size dog would be a plus.
A stay-at-home parent would also be a major plus for Sterling!

GREYT WITH CHILDREN
PLAYFUL GUY!
Teddy is an Irish-born Greyhound from the farm of NGA Hall of Famer, Pat Dalton.
Teddy is a very beautiful guy. Greyt muscle tone, sleek and shiny coat, and eyes that just sparkle with mischief and fun! Teddy loves
playing with stuffies and can spend hours, tossing them joyful abandon. He does need any encouragement to join in at play time!
Teddy absolutely loves children. Being a total play hound, Teddy is looking for a family where the children would like to chase or play
ball with him!
Teddy crates beautifully. Rawhide chews are favorites of his, and he can spend hours on end chewing them.
Teddy took a slight detour during his search for his forever home which had some very serious consequences. Adopted by a lovely family on
April 14th, while in their yard, Teddy was bitten by either a rattlesnake or venomous spider on April 18th. After nearly a week in either the e-vet or
family vet and nearly $1500.00 later, Teddy came home. Afraid that this could happen again, the family elected to return Teddy to be
rehomed. Teddy did lose quite a bit of weight prior to his recovery, but he is now up to weight and ready to call another
lucky family his own.
If you are looking for a Greyhound with a stellar personality and disposition, look no further. Teddy is the one for you!

PRETTY LITTLE THING!
Tori arrived at H.O.T. in our second group of Greyhounds from the Lone Star Kennel at the Corpus Christi Greyhound Race Track.
This gal's got it all sewn up: beautiful looks, wonderful personality, and greyt behavior!
Her white is sparkling like freshly-fallen snow and her brindle is clear and concise. She makes quite a
flashy picture as she races around the back yard.
Tori is a fun gal to have around. She loves to chase stuffies and balls. We feel she would do greyt in
a family with children. Tori crates beautifully, although she does need a little encouragement to go
in initially.
If you are looking for a lovebug of a Greyhound, Tori may be just the one for you!
