The Founding Members of the H.O.T.
Jan Suche Nevitt, Coral Blenkle, Phyllis Workman, and Cheryl and Scott King
|
CURRENT H.O.T. BOARD MEMBERS AND OFFICERS
- PRESIDENT/TREASURER - Cheryl King
- SECRETARY/BOARD MEMBER - Scott King
Cheryl and her husband, Scott, have been actively involved with Greyhounds since adopting their first, Smoo's Miss Polly,
in 1992. Since that time, well over 1,000 Greyhounds have been fostered by the Kings passing their their hearts and home on their way to
their "forever" homes. Their decision to begin H.O.T., along with the other founding members, was based on their desire to go
above and beyond just adopting Greyhounds into approved, loving homes. They also strive to provide the necessary follow-up and after-care
which they feel is an essential part of Greyhound adoption. Cheryl was selected as the inaugural Greyhound
Adoption Person of the Year by the American Greyhound Track Owners Associaton (AGTOA) in 2007 because of her 24-hour a day and
continuing dedication to the Greyhounds
- VICE PRESIDENT - Elizabeth Cygan
Elizabeth and her family adopted their first Greyhound, Splatter, in the summer of 2002. Shortly after that, they
joined H.O.T.'s efforts because of the level of commitment, care and compassion which H.O.T. members showed for their Greyhounds. They
became active foster parents, and Elizabeth now lends a hand in all aspects of H.O.T. Elizabeth continues to educate herself about the
breed and all aspects of adoption and the racing industry. Along with Splatter, Elizabeth and her family have adopted Brit and a Greyhound
named, Chihuahua! Elizabeth
is very adapt at training Greyhounds to do the basic obedience commands and willingly shares that information with other Greyhound
families.
- FOSTER COORDINATOR - Kerrie King
Kerrie brings to H.O.T. over 12 years of experience in working with Greyhounds exclusively.
She has a keen ability to match up a Greyhound with a foster family to help make the foster experience a positive
one for all involved! Having lost two Greyhounds to osteo and other to a rare blood disease, Kerrie currently is owned
by three Greyhounds, Chubby, Hoss and senior princess and often H.O.T. "cover dog", the lovely Rita!
- MEDIA CONSULTANT AND PR REP: - Shelley Cook
Shelley and her husband, Howie, recently moved to San Antonio from Richmond, Virginia. While in Richmond, Shelley
and her husband were actively involved with fostering Greyhounds through GPA/Richmond. The Cooks come to H.O.T. highly recommended by
their previous group. Since arriving in San Antonio, Shelley and Howie have jumped in with both feet! Howie is constantly promoting the
satisfaction and fun of being a H.O.T. foster family, while Shelley has graciously agreed to use her talents in media relations,
communications, and art design to assist H.O.T. in becoming a more visable presence in the local and surrounding communities. Shelley
and Howie adopted Gable Celia and EZ William and continue to foster for H.O.T.
- FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR - Position currently opened
- GRIEF AND SUPPORT COUNSELING - Elsy Bless
Elsy, known as the "Grandma Elsy" to many in the Greyhound community,
brings to H.O.T. many years of experience in all phases of Greyhound adoption, having served as past president
of Greyhound Pets of America/San Antonio for over ten years. H.O.T. is proud to have her
working with us in the support of Greyhounds.
- H.O.T. OUT OF THE BOX EDITOR - Kimberly King
Kimberly brings to H.O.T. over 12 years of experience in working with Greyhounds exclusively
She is a published poet and author (in local venues), and has the knowledge which will bring freshness and sparkle to
our H.O.T. Out Of The Box web page, as well as other H.O.T. communications. Kimberly wrote an article
about Old Fella which appeared in the 2004 Winter issue of Celebrating Greyhounds. Dee-Dee and Pia proudly call Kimberly
their "momma"!
- H.O.T. HOUND HACIENDA COORDINATOR - Dave Long
Dave, and his wife, Joan, have been Greyhound parents for about four years. They are both very helpful during the
Show 'n Tails knowledegable in both handling the foster Greyhounds and interviewing prospective adoptive families. Dave and Joan's
Greybabies, Jo-Jo and Kaze, help with acclimating new Greyhounds to home life. They specialize in those "high prey" Greyhounds
which are good only with other large dogs. Dave's myriad of "honey-do" experience in all aspects of home repair will be a
